This is a crucial election no matter where your political interests lie. This is not a choice between similar candidates, this is a time to keep things the same or maybe change the course of history, for better or worse. No equivocation, ’way different strokes.
If you haven’t chosen a candidate by now, you’re a moron. If you haven’t learned enough by now to make a decision, you’re an idiot. Do us all a favor and don’t vote. Stick your head back in the sand where it belongs.
There has been some effort made already to affect the upcoming elections. A certain party (which shall
remain unamed) is in the process of repeating the debacle seen in Florida in the last election where thousands, if not millions, of registered voters were denied the right to vote.
We know mostly about our home state of Wisconsin where it is estimated that from one quarter to one third of voters could be disenfranchised due to technicalities. If you have moved, changed names, wrong middle initial on your driver’s license, etc, your vote won’t count. Your previous registration is invalid.
This effort, led by our Attorney General (guess which party) is allegedly to prevent voter fraud. They unearthed about 12 cases in the last election, and most of them were ex-felons that didn’t know they couldn’t vote. Big worry.
This attack is aimed mainly at the lower mobile class, students, people who have lost their homes and
moved. Essentially, that group which might be expected to vote for a particular party.
Voters registered to that party recently recieved mailings urging them to send in absentee ballots and providing materials to do so. The address the ballots were sent to was phony. The votes were lost. This action was done by the Wisconsin ********** Party. The national party (***) also has a website offering an opportunity to register through their site. Hmm.
Update: 10-6-08 News reports from around the country indicate that there is a effort underway to convince college students that if they register to vote where they go to school, their parents will lose their tax deduction. This is not true and it is even pushed by some over-politicized registrars. If you know a kid in school, please tell them about this.
I’ve been as non-partisan as I could be here (right!), but the fact remains: check out your registration status and re-register NOW if necessary. Some states end that possibility after Oct. 4, some Oct. 6, some later.
The following link is provided by the State of Wisconsin as the place to check out your registration status, I don’t know if it’s national but there are a lot of State sites out there. Go, please. Voter Search I’d be very leery of websites not directly related to a .gov address. I don’t believe either side, or special interests, can be trusted.
